Pharmaceutical Company Presentation Skills, Team and 1:1 Coaching
Situation - The international marketing team of a global pharmaceutical company was a six-monthly meeting for global affiliates, and would be presenting on recent developments. The conference lasted two days; the conference language was English. The majority of the presenters and the audience were not native speakers. Because the team met the affiliates so rarely, they wanted to give them huge amounts of information. Feedback from previous conferences suggested that the audience had felt uninvolved in the presentations and demotivated.
Intervention - We coached [group and 1:1] the team and went through their presentations. By getting them to think about the objective of the conference [which was to inspire and motivate as much as give new information] and the likely mindset of the audience, we encouraged them to focus on a few key messages and eliminate most of the detail. We also encouraged them to reduce the number of slides and simplify the ones that they did use. This meant that they could slow down their delivery and engage more with the audience. The detailed information was put in the delegate pack.
Outcome - The feedback from the conference was much more positive and the objectives were achieved.
